Big fourth lifts Orioles over Wildcats in VSBL

A four-run fourth propelled Blackburn to a second-straight Victorian Summer Baseball League win on Tuesday night.

The Orioles used the big inning to overcome Waverley 4-3 at Napier Park after falling behind 2-0 early.

Bailey, Irwin star for Giants in WA State League

Nick Irwin drove in four runs and Tom Bailey struck out eight in five one-run innings as Wanneroo wrapped up a sweep of its WA State League 1 doubleheader against Carine on Sunday.

The Giants extended their winning streak to nine games with an 11-1 victory at Mateljan Park after prevailing 4-1 in the early game.

Kyle backing Heat's local arms to get job done early

Returning Perth manager Andy Kyle has backed his local arms to play key roles early as the Heat’s imports settle into the Australian Baseball League following their quarantine period.

He also flagged the chance for some of Western Australia’s young pitchers to get a chance at ABL level with expander rosters, Mitch Neunborn Adelaide-bound and Perth also set to enter the new season without Philadelphia prospect Josh Hendrickson and reliable reliever Josh Rawlinson.

Cavalry to head west without five key players

Canberra will start its Australian Baseball League campaign shorthanded but manager Keith Ward says he is confident the Cavalry can still collect their fair share of wins against Perth.

The Cavs will be without slugger Zach Wilson, infield recruit Mikey Reynolds, MLB-experienced starter Shawn Morimando and Toronto prospects Samad Taylor and Chavez Young when they take on the Heat.

Barclay upbeat about focused Blue Sox

Sydney field manager Shane Barclay is upbeat about his team’s chances entering the new Australian Baseball League season after a testing 2019/20 campaign.

The Blue Sox started 9-6 a season ago before going on to lose 17 of their next 22 – and along the way key pair Alex Maestri and Gift Ngoepe to injury – as they were unable to make a second-straight playoffs.

Four homers lift Cardinals over Indians in SABL

Kensington used the long ball to overcome Goodwood in the South Australian Baseball League on Saturday and improve its record to 7-2.

The Cardinals went deep four times in a 13-3 win at Newland Reserve, led by two homers from Austin Gallagher.

Workers extend NSWSBL winning run to five games

Blacktown withstood a late charge from Manly to extend its New South Wales State Baseball League winning streak to five games on Sunday.

The Eagles scored four times in the top of the ninth but Workers held on to prevail 7-5 at Laybutt Reserve and take their record to 10-6.

Aces confident ahead of title defence getting underway

New Melbourne manager Allan de San Miguel is confident the Aces have put together a roster capable of defending their Australian Baseball League title this summer.

Melbourne lost a stack of experience following last season’s Claxton Shield success with de San Miguel, former big leaguers Luke Hughes and Peter Moylan, along with veteran pitcher Dushan Ruzic all retiring.

Giants lose reigning Helms winner ... again

Adelaide will enter a second-straight Australian Baseball League season without a reigning Helms Award winner after Aaron Whitefield confirmed he would remain in the US ahead of his 2021 campaign.

Whitefield was instrumental in the Giants’ run to last season’s ABL Championship Series and claimed his second Helms after previously securing the award with Brisbane in 2017.

Eagles blank Braves in WASL1 Friday night action

Morley pitchers Raleigh Pelkonen and Lochlan Southee combined to shut out Braves 1-0 in Friday night’s only WA State League 1 matchup at Baseball Park.

Pelkonen and Southee limited Braves to six hits and Jess Williams delivered the go-ahead run in the fifth as the Eagles notched their ninth win of the season with a 1-0 victory.

Royals strike first in top-of-the-table GBL matchup

Three pitchers combined to lift Windsor to a shutout victory over Pine Hills on Friday night in the first of two Greater Brisbane League top-of-the-table matchups between the teams to finish 2020.

Masaru Nakamura, Matthew Watson and Matthew Timms combined to limit the dangerous Lightning batting lineup to just four hits and the Royals’ offence took chances it the fourth and fifth to secure a 3-0 win at Holloway Field.
