Perth has made the most of a difficult situation, using its exhibition game against Brisbane’s Futures team on Friday night to get valuable game time into its imports and give some young guns an opportunity to impress.
The Heat were slated to start their season proper against Canberra but that was derailed earlier in the day with the Cavalry not travelling to Perth for COVID-related reasons.

Returning Perth manager Andy Kyle has backed his local arms to play key roles early as the Heat’s imports settle into the Australian Baseball League following their quarantine period.
He also flagged the chance for some of Western Australia’s young pitchers to get a chance at ABL level with expander rosters, Mitch Neunborn Adelaide-bound and Perth also set to enter the new season without Philadelphia prospect Josh Hendrickson and reliable reliever Josh Rawlinson.

Reigning Australian Baseball League Brett Sports Pitching Champion Dylan Unsworth will play for Auckland this season.
The 27-year-old starred for Perth last season and will bolster the Tuatara’s starting rotation in the seven-inning International Conference.

Dylan Unsworth arrived in Perth ahead of the 2019/20 Australian Baseball League season looking to put his name back out there after the most testing year of his baseball career.
The South African native certainly did just that, putting together one of the most consistent seasons by a starter in ABL history and capping it off by being named the 2020 Brett Sports Pitching Champion following a poll of the eight managers.
