Dion Searle homered and led the way with five RBIs as Taipans racked up 26 hits to seven in an impressive display.

Veteran relief pitcher Scott Mitchinson will return for Melbourne’s title defence, the club announced today.

The 16-year-old starting pitcher went 5 2/3 innings, allowing one unearned run on five hits, a walk and two hit batters, to secure the win in a 4-1 triumph for the Redsox.

Younis blasted a slam to cap off a five-run second inning for the Kookaburras after Jack Dormor’s RBI-single opened the scoring.

Both teams traded early three-run frames at Perth Harley-Davidson Ballpark ahead of the Giants loading the bases on three-straight singles in the fourth.
