Giants ride fast start to 3-0 record in NSW women's league

Greenway remains the only undefeated team after three rounds of the NSW Women’s Baseball League first grade season.

The Giants rode a fast start to an 11-4 win over Cronulla at Bonnet Bay on Saturday to improve to 3-0.

Taylor's multi-homer game lifts Redcliffe to GBL win

Outfielder Liam Taylor homered twice as Redcliffe powered past Redlands 11-2 to record its first win of the Greater Brisbane League season on Sunday.

Taylor went deep in the sixth and eighth – after striking out in his first three plate appearances – to finish with five RBIs as the Padres bounced back from a 2-1 loss on Friday night at Redlands.

Marlins, Panthers open NSW State League accounts

Central Coast and Penrith both collected their first win of the NSW State Baseball League season over the weekend.

The Marlins rode a six-run fifth to a 7-6 victory over Cronulla at Bonnet Bay and the Panthers overpowered winless Manly 11-6 at Andrews Road Complex on Sunday.

Aussies selected for 2019 MLB College Showcase

Fourteen Australians will get the chance to work out at big league facilities and take on a Division I college outfit at the 2019 MLB College Showcase Tour in Arizona.

New South Welshmen Clayton Campbell, Blake Cavill, Ky Jackson, Solomon Maguire, Dylan Martin and Jaylin Rae, Victoria’s Conor Myles, Zak Skinner and Keenan Spence, Queenslanders Liam MacDonald and Kai-Noa Wynyard, West Australians Byron Armstrong and Will Sherriff, and Liam Bull (SA) will today head to the US for the tour.

Giants secure return of American closer

American closer Ryan Chaffee will return to Adelaide for a second Australian Baseball League season, the club announced last night.

The 31-year-old impressed in his debut ABL campaign, compiling a 3.71 ERA with six saves in 20 appearances.

Bandits re-sign experienced catcher

Brisbane has re-signed 200-game catcher Ryan Battaglia ahead of its pursuit of a fifth-straight Australian Baseball League title getting underway in November.

The 27-year-old Queenslander played 27 games for the Bandits last season, hitting .241 with three homers and 14 RBI.

From curiosity to the Cardinals, Burns eyes big league dream

Jake Burns was not born when now national team manager David Nilsson became the first Australian MLB All Star in 1999.

But it does not stop the former Milwaukee catcher serving as an inspiration to the 16-year-old New South Welshman, who last week put pen to paper with St. Louis.

Australian baseball fans will have wider access to a range of supporter tours under an expansion of Baseball Australia’s partnership with SportsLink Travel.

SportsLink Travel is a leading provider of tours to major international sports events, including Premier12 and the Olympics, and under the new agreement will become Baseball Australia’s official travel management company where they will also manage the travel requirements of all national teams.

Heat re-sign equal ABL wins leader

Perth has re-signed joint modern-day Australian Baseball League wins leader Daniel Schmidt for the 2019/20 season.

The 31-year-old returns for a 10th season with the Heat leading the relaunched league with 35 wins alongside recently retired Sydney starter Craig Anderson.

Hendriks, A's move one step closer to October

Liam Hendriks completed his 25th save of the season as Oakland topped Seattle 3-1 at T-Mobile Park to move one step closer to clinching its postseason spot on Friday afternoon (Australian time).

Hendriks retired the side in the bottom of the ninth as the A’s wrapped up their 96th win of the season and moved within a win of a second-straight playoff series.

ABL all-time saves leader returns for Bandits

Australian Baseball League modern-day saves leader Ryan Searle has committed to Brisbane for a 10th season.

The four-time ABL championship winner has a record 37 saves in the relaunched league and is 18 strikeouts shy of overtaking Canberra’s Brian Grening for most in the modern-day competition.
