Corporate News World Baseball Classic

Iconic food brand Four’N Twenty partners with Team Australia ahead of World Baseball Classic

Four’N Twenty, one of Australia’s most iconic food brands, has announced a renewed partnership with Team Australia ahead of the 2026 World Baseball Classic campaign.

The partnership will see Four’N Twenty backing Team Australia as they take on the biggest baseball nations in the world at the 2026 World Baseball Classic, beginning March 4 in Tokyo.

Four’N Twenty will feature proudly on the team’s uniform and branding as Team Australia plays in front of tens of millions of baseball fans globally. Their iconic meat pies, already on sale in Japan, will also be available to fans at the Tokyo Dome throughout the tournament.

This announcement marks another chapter in Four’N Twenty’s long history of supporting the national baseball team, following partnerships at the 2023 Asia Professional Baseball Championship and the 2024 Hanwha Series in Melbourne.

The iconic Four’N Twenty meat pie is also a staple in clubhouses around diamonds at a grassroots level across Australia.

Anand Surujpal, Chief Marketing and Growth Officer at Patties Food Group, said the company is excited to stand behind the national program once again.

“We’ve been feeding Aussie sports fans for generations, and supporting Team Australia on the world stage is something we’re incredibly proud of,” Surujpal said.

“Four’N Twenty has been part of major sporting moments in this country for over 75 years, and we’re thrilled to back Team Australia as they head to Tokyo. There’s nothing more Australian than enjoying a pie while cheering on the green and gold.”

Baseball Australia CEO Glenn Williams welcomed the continued partnership.

“Four’N Twenty and Australian sport have a long and successful history together,” Williams said.

“They’ve been tremendous supporters of Team Australia in recent years, including the APBC and the Hanwha Series, and this renewed partnership takes that connection to another level. We’re proud to take such an iconic Australian brand with us onto the world stage.”

Four’N Twenty’s presence in Japan has grown significantly since 2019, with their famous pies becoming a fan favourite at the Tokyo Dome and Escon Field. Their continued support aligns perfectly with Team Australia’s expanding international profile.

The partnership also reflects a shared commitment to community sport. With participation rates rising sharply across the country and thousands of volunteers supporting the grassroots game, both organisations value their deep connections to local communities.

Team Australia enters the World Baseball Classic hoping to build on their historic quarterfinal appearance in 2023.

Williams adds that it feels appropriate that a ballpark staple is going with the team to Japan.

“Most of us grew up eating Four’N Twenty pies at the local ballpark. To have their support on the biggest stage in world baseball means a lot. The team is excited and can’t wait to represent Australia in Tokyo,” he said.

As Four’N Twenty continues expanding its presence in major global sports, the renewed partnership with Team Australia brings together two Australian icons ahead of an exciting World Baseball Classic campaign.

About Four’N Twenty:

Since being created in 1947 in regional Australia, Four’N Twenty has taken the great Australian taste to new markets. The Australian icon produces 21,000 pies per hour to keep up with the demand of 146,000 Four’N Twenty pies consumed around the globe every day.

Four’N Twenty is now available in more than 15 countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the US, Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the Pacific Islands.  Four’N Twenty pies are currently sold in Japan in Aeon stores, convenience outlets, theme parks, ski resorts and major sports stadiums such as the Tokyo Dome and Escon Field.

Baseball Australia and Invictus Australia Step Up to the Plate for Defence Community Health and Wellbeing

Invictus Australia and Baseball Australia have formalised a new partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), establishing a shared commitment to supporting the wellbeing, inclusion, and connection of Australia’s defence community through sport.

Baseball Australia is the governing body for all levels of baseball throughout Australia, a recognised member of the World Baseball Softball Confederation and the Australian Sports Commission and the owner of the Australian Baseball League.

They coordinate and support their seven state and territory associations; each are a crucial touchpoint in growing baseball and supporting national programs locally.

Invictus Australia is the leading nonprofit organisation connecting current and former serving personnel and their families to sporting communities across Australia. They promote the benefits of sport for proactively managing physical, social and emotional health, and supporting recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration following transition from service.

This partnership reflects the shared vision of Invictus Australia and Baseball Australia to harness the power of sport as a vehicle for connection, purpose, and community.

Both organisations recognise the wide-ranging benefits of team sports like baseball supporting physical health, strengthening mental wellbeing, fostering inclusion, and creating a strong sense of identity, belonging and community.

Connecting Communities

This collaboration opens new opportunities for veterans and their families to give baseball a go.

Through this initiative members of the defence community can develop new skills and build meaningful connections with others in a sport that is welcoming and provides opportunities for everyone to get involved, whether through playing, coaching or officiating, or being part of the crew behind the scenes that keep the clubs thriving.

Sport provides an environment that supports structure, routine, and connection, key ingredients in navigating life after service.

Baseball encourages movement, focus, teamwork, and shared purpose. Its inclusive nature makes it accessible to people of all ages and abilities, particularly those seeking recovery, re-connection, or a renewed sense of direction after service.

Through this partnership, baseball becomes a pathway for the defence community to connect, participate, and thrive on and off the field and provides the opportunity to find a new tribe.

Military Ties to Baseball

Baseball’s connection to the military dates back decades.

During World War II, thousands of American servicemen stationed in Australia brought the sport with them, playing games on military bases and inviting locals to join or spectate. This sparked a nationwide interest that grew in the post-war years.

That connection has continued.

Today, many defence personnel past and present play in community leagues, with baseball serving as a vital connector, especially in regional areas. Its strategic, social, and low-impact nature, along with the community that team sports provide., making it well-suited to those looking to stay active, engaged, and supported.

Harnessing the Power of Baseball for Community and Recovery

At the centre of this partnership is a shared commitment to offering meaningful and welcoming opportunities for veterans and their families to get involved with baseball.

Baseball provides an accessible and inclusive environment where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together and play, fostering connection, wellbeing, and a strong sense of belonging. Clubs across Australia provide an opportunity to become part of their local community where people meet and with a shared purpose around the game, work together to make each club successful family hubs.

“Baseball Australia is excited to partner with Invictus Australia, to provide an opportunity for veterans and their families to be part of our great baseball community,” says Baseball Australia CEO Glenn Williams.

“Baseball clubs have a great way of making people welcome and, combined with our nationwide commitment to Play Well, where everyone has a place in sport, we know we can provide a platform for people to thrive both on and off the field.”

This shared vision is already resonating within the defence community.

Toni Cumpston, Director, Community Participation and Impact, reflects on the enthusiasm shown at two community events featuring baseball. The first in Western Australia and more recently in Victoria in February, were opportunities to bring the defence community together in a supportive environment.

“We’ve already seen the defence community rally behind baseball. In Western Australia the Rockingham Rams hosted our Defence Community Sports Expo last year and in February this year in Victoria the community came together for a come and try event and curtain raiser match between Team Veteran and Vic Police hosted in partnership with Baseball Australia, before the Hanwha Eagles faced off against Team Australia. The spirit of the game and Baseball’s strong commitment to community make it a natural fit for supporting veterans and their families,” says Cumpston.

Baseball Australia’s Role in Community Engagement

With 600 clubs and a tight knit community focussed on growing its national presence, Baseball Australia has a strong foundation in participation, community sport, and inclusive development. The organisation is well-equipped to help defence communities find their place in baseball.

By aligning with Invictus Australia, Baseball Australia reinforces its commitment to social impact and community development. Together, they aim to build sustainable pathways that support recovery, encourage lifelong participation, and strengthen the social fabric of communities across the country.

This collaboration is a testament to the transformative power of sport in bringing people together, fostering resilience, and creating lasting change.

TeamSports4All and Baseball Australia Partner to Make Baseball More Accessible for Disadvantaged Kids

TeamSports4All (TS4A) and Baseball Australia are proud to announce a new partnership aimed at increasing access to Baseball for financially disadvantaged children across Australia.

Officially launched on 25 February 2025, this collaboration seeks to break down financial barriers and create greater opportunities for young Australians to engage in the sport.

The partnership between Baseball Australia (BA) and TeamSports4All (TS4A) removes the financial barrier to participation in sport and connects children from low socio-economic backgrounds into their communities, which they are often isolated from.

TS4A is an Australian charity dedicated to ensuring that financial disadvantage does not prevent children from experiencing the benefits of team sport.

The organisation covers costs such as registration fees, uniforms, and equipment while offering ongoing support to keep children engaged in sport for multiple seasons.

Currently, TS4A supports over 650 children, with ambitions to expand its reach to thousands more.

The first phase will start with a pilot in Melbourne, so if you, or a family at your club, is experiencing severe financial disadvantage, simply fill out the referral form on the TeamSports4All website.

Refer a Family: www.teamsports4all.com.au/refer-a-child/

Research from the Australian Sports Commission highlights cost as the number one barrier to participation in sport. By addressing this issue, the TS4A and BA partnership will ensure that more children can experience the benefits of Baseball, including physical activity, teamwork, and community connection.

“We believe that every child deserves the chance to play sport, regardless of their financial situation,” said Simon Davie, at TeamSports4All. “This partnership with Baseball Australia is a significant step toward making Baseball more inclusive and accessible for all Australian kids.”

Glenn Willams, the CEO of Baseball Australia, echoed this sentiment.

“Sport has the power to unite communities and transform lives,” said Williams. “By working with TeamSports4All, we can ensure that more young Australians get the opportunity to play and enjoy Baseball.”

For more information about this partnership or how to support the initiative, visit www.teamsports4all.com.au.

Celebrating Team Australia at the Australian Embassy in Tokyo: A Platform for Sports Diplomacy and Bilateral Opportunity

In a memorable evening at the Australian Embassy in Tokyo, Team Australia’s senior men’s national team was honoured in a gathering that highlighted the powerful role of sports diplomacy in strengthening ties between Australia and Japan.

Hosted by Australian Ambassador to Japan Justin Hayhurst, the event showcased how baseball, one of Japan’s most beloved sports and a growing force in Australia, builds unique connections and offers significant opportunities for collaboration between the two nations.

Team Australia is in Japan preparing to play in the Premier12, one of the most significant international baseball events. They’ve been well received in Japan, gaining over 7 million impressions on X in the first 10 days since arriving, with 97% of the audience coming from Japan.

Australia’s tournament opening game on November 13 is expected to be watched by over 25 million people in Japan. For context, the NRL Grand Final and AFL Grand Final had a combined audience of 7 million in Australia in 2024.

To see all the media coverage Team Australia has attracted in Japan, visit here.

For businesses in both countries, the event at the Ambassador’s house emphasized the possibilities for leveraging the cultural and economic bridges that baseball creates.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Hayhurst welcomed guests from government, business, and the sporting community, acknowledging the shared values that underpin Australia-Japan relations.

Baseball, with its deep following in both nations, provides a strong platform for cross-border connections. The recent 2023 World Baseball Classic, where Team Australia and Japan went head-to-head, exemplified this connection. With sell-out crowds and millions tuning in across Japan and Australia, the game showcased the sport’s powerful reach and influence.

Australia has been living and working in Fuchu City, a Tokyo suburb, exemplifying the power of cross-country relations for positive outcomes.

There are also five teams from the NPB, Japan’s top level of professional baseball, sending 14 players to compete in the upcoming Australian Baseball League season from November 15 onward. This includes current NPB Champions DeNA Baystars and the biggest professional sports brand in Japan, the Tokyo Giants.

Sports Diplomacy as a Gateway to New Partnerships

Glenn Williams, Baseball Australia’s CEO, spoke to the significance of Team Australia’s growing popularity in Japan.

“Australia’s popularity in Japan has never been higher,” he said.

Williams emphasized how games like the World Baseball Classic and Premier12 create pathways for new relationships.

“The platforms developed through games we play in Japan are prime opportunities for business to host their current or prospective Japanese partners to an engaged and enthusiastic audience,” he added, underscoring how such events drive business conversations, cultural exchanges, and investment possibilities that extend far beyond the field.

The 2023 World Baseball Classic matchup between Australia and Japan drew millions of viewers and sell-out crowds, highlighting the demand for high-stakes international baseball.

Baseball Australia’s longstanding partnerships with Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) and connections with cities like Fuchu demonstrate how sports diplomacy can drive meaningful engagements.

For Japanese and Australian businesses, the success of such events shows the potential for cross-border collaboration through sponsorships, youth development programs, and fan engagement initiatives, all while fostering brand equity and corporate goodwill.

A Bright Future for Australia-Japan Business Relationships

The night at the embassy served as a reminder of the mutual respect and shared enthusiasm that strengthen the Australia-Japan relationship.

Glenn Williams shared his optimism about the future.

“The relationship between Japan and Australia is stronger than ever, and with more events on the horizon, this is a prime opportunity to partner with Australian baseball,” he said.

Above: Australian head coach Dave Nilsson, who spent time in his career playing in Japan

As baseball continues to bridge Australia and Japan, businesses are presented with unique avenues for growth, including tourism, education, and sports-related investments.

In closing, we extend our gratitude to Ambassador Justin Hayhurst for his hospitality and dedication to supporting Team Australia’s presence in Japan. Under his leadership, the Australian Embassy in Tokyo remains a bridge for fostering economic and cultural ties through sports diplomacy.

The evening was more than a celebration of athletic achievement; it was a reminder of the valuable opportunities for businesses willing to be part of the growing collaboration between Australia and Japan/

Baseball’s popularity creates a platform for long-lasting relationships, uniting government, business, and fans in a shared passion and mutual respect.

Baseball Australia announces three new directors to the Board

The future of Australian Baseball is in good hands after Baseball Australia’s Annual General Meeting in late 2023.

Baseball Australia recently changed its Constitution to move more in line with Australian Sports Commission governance principles. Among the changes was the make-up of the directors of the board, which now constitutes six elected by the Members of the Australian Baseball Federation, and a further four appointed by the Board.

Three (3) new directors were appointed to the Board:

– Paige Ridgewell: Senior Queensland Government Executive and former Deputy Director General of Queensland Sport and Recreation.

– Catherine Beachley: Highly experienced Government Relations and Communications consultant.

– John Boultbee: Former CEO of the Australian Institute of Sport, CEO of World Rowing, Head of High Performance for FFA and Volleyball Australia and CEO of the Australian Sports Tribunal.

Longtime Australian MLB pitcher (and Harvard student) Graeme Lloyd, former Wallabies star and international lawyer Ian Williams, investment banker Anthony Brasher and senior NRL executive Jess Goddard were also re-elected to their director positions.

These directors join former MLB pitcher and baseball administrator Shayne Bennett, Guzman y Gomez co-founder Robert Hazan and longstanding President David Hynes AM on the BA Board.

Hynes says Baseball Australia’s stakeholders should be proud of the calibre of its directors.

“They bring a lot of passion and experience to our sport,” he says. “You would struggle to find a sporting board in Australia with directors of this calibre and with a common and united vision to grow our game’.
