Bowey gem leads Cubs over Reds in WASL1

Jake Bowey allowed one run in eight innings and South Perth Cubs piled on four early runs to secure a 5-1 win over Victoria Park/Belmont Reds in Sunday’s WA State League 1 action.

Bowey struck out 15 at Forster Park, giving up four hits and issuing one walk, as the Cubs prevailed in a likely elimination final preview.

Saints edge Senators, stay top of SASL

Sturt Saints had the closest call out of the South Australian State League’s top-five teams on Saturday, needing a pair of eighth-inning runs to overcome Woodville Senators.

Tyler Chappell singled to drive in the go-ahead run and Sonny Beaumont added a second two-out run with an insurance-providing double as the Saints sealed a 4-2 win at Norman Reserve.

Tigers take down VSBL Eastern Conference leaders

Upwey-Ferntree Gully Tigers toppled Eastern Conference leading Berwick City Cougars on Sunday as they picked up a vital win in the hunt for a Victorian Summer Baseball League finals spot.

The Tigers extended their winning streak to four games with an 11-2 win at Cyril Molyneux Reserve.

Gibbons strikes out 15, Baycats blank Braves in VSBL

Sam Gibbons struck out 15 across eight shutout innings as Geelong Baycats picked up an important Victorian Summer Baseball League win over Malvern Braves on Thursday night.

Gibbons allowed three hits and issued one walk across eight dominant innings as the Baycats triumphed 5-0 at Melbourne Ballpark to pull level with Sunshine Eagles on 11 wins for the campaign.

Friday night’s series opener between Team Australia and the Brisbane Bandits at Viticon Stadium has been cancelled due to bad weather.

Southeast Queensland has been battered by rain on Friday, causing the scheduled opener to be called off.

Hawks tighten hold on SASL's sixth spot

Southern Districts Hawks snapped a five-game losing streak and tightened their grip on sixth spot in the South Australian State League on Tuesday night.

The Hawks scored five early runs and went on to complete a 10-1 win over Adelaide Angels at Weigall Oval to keep the chasing pack at bay heading into the final five gamedays of the regular-season.

Shakespeare commits to Northeast Community College

Canberra’s Tom Shakespeare has his sights on playing for a four-year college after committing to an NJCAA Division II program.

The 18-year-old outfielder, a product of the Weston Creek Indians, will link up with Northeast Community College.

Glendinning signs with new MLB team

West Australian Robbie Glendinning has reportedly signed a Minor League deal with the Kansas City Royals.

The 26-year-old infielder was released by the Pittsburgh Pirates earlier in the week but snapped up quickly on a two-year deal by the Royals, according to Alec Lewis of The Athletic.

New South Welshman Daniel Bannon was named the Region IX Player of the Week overnight.

The McCook Community College sophomore went 9-for-19 (.474) in four games during the week ending February 20.

Team Australia roster locked in to face Bandits

A 19-player Team Australia roster has been locked in to face the Brisbane Bandits in a three-game series at Viticon Stadium this weekend.

Experienced duo Robbie Perkins and Luke Wilkins along with 2021 Australian Baseball League joint Rookie of the year Mitch Neunborn will don the green and gold, joining a long list of rising young prospects.

Lions stun Bombers in VSBL

Fitzroy Lions rode a strong pitching display to an impressive win over Essendon Bombers in the Victorian Summer Baseball League on Sunday.

Jordan Hill and Darcy King combined to limit the Bombers to only three runs in a 7-3 win at Boeing Reserve as the Lions collected a third victory of the campaign.
