Spence selected with 154th pick in MLB Draft

Geelong’s Liam Spence has been taken by the Chicago Cubs with the 154th pick in the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft.

The 23-year-old infielder was named by the Cubs with their fifth round selection on Tuesday morning Australian time.

Geelong-Korea to sit out 2021/22 ABL season

Geelong-Korea will sit out a second-straight Australian Baseball League season due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The expansion outfit’s ownership group informed the league this week they would join Auckland on the sidelines for the 2021/22 season.

Wells dominant for Tides in pitchers' duel

New South Welshman Alexander Wells did his hopes of getting a MLB recall sooner rather than later no harm on Monday morning.

Wells allowed only two hits across six shutout innings for Norfolk in a 1-0 loss to Durham at Harbor Park in Triple-A Minor League action.

Team Australia unveils indigenous recognition symbol

Team Australia will acknowledge the rich history and culture of the country’s First Nations people after adding an indigenous symbol to its uniforms.

The symbol, designed by proud Whadjuk Noongar woman and Perth artist Jarni McGuire, was revealed today to coincide with NAIDOC Week.

Hendriks receives second All-Star nod

Liam Hendriks has been named for Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game for a second time

The 32-year-old West Australian will feature in the 2021 edition at Colorado’s Coors Field next week after becoming the first Aussie selected for two All-Star Games.

Wells collects first MLB win

New South Welshman Alexander Wells collected his first Major League Baseball win in just his second game as Baltimore downed Houston 13-3 at Minute Maid Park on Wednesday.

Wells allowed two runs in 2 2/3 relief innings in his second game for the Orioles after making his big league debut on Sunday morning Australian time.

Mead collects second-straight weekly MiLB award

South Australian Curtis Mead has been named Minor League Baseball’s Low-A East Player of the Week for a second-straight time.

The 20-year-old infielder was earlier today named the Player of the Week for June 21-27 after continuing his impressive form for Tampa Bay affiliate Charleston.

Hendriks locks down 20th save of season

West Australian Liam Hendriks locked down his American League-leading 20th save of the MLB season as the Chicago White Sox split a doubleheader against Seattle on Monday morning.

Hendriks notched the save after entering and recording the final two outs of the Sox 7-5 win at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Wells becomes 36th Aussie to play MLB

Alexander Wells has become the 36th Australian to make their Major League Baseball debut.

The Novocastrian entered in the seventh inning of Baltimore’s 12-4 loss to Toronto on Sunday morning (Australian time) and tossed a couple of scoreless frames at Sahlen Field.

Orioles call up Wells

Newcastle’s Alexander Wells has been called up by Baltimore and is in line to make his Major League Baseball debut.

Wells, the Orioles’ No. 17 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, was promoted earlier today from Triple-A Norfolk.

Team Australia makes decision on underage World Cups

Boral Team Australia will not compete at two underage World Cup events scheduled for later in the year amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Baseball Australia this week finalised a decision not to enter teams into the 2021 WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup in the US and the U-12 Baseball World Cup slated for Taiwan.
