Geelong’s Liam Spence says hearing his name be called at last week’s MLB Draft put him in a “complete daze”.
The 23-year-old infielder was taken by the Chicago Cubs with the 154th pick in the draft, putting him another step closer to his dream of becoming a big leaguer.

Geelong’s Liam Spence has been taken by the Chicago Cubs with the 154th pick in the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft.
The 23-year-old infielder was named by the Cubs with their fifth round selection on Tuesday morning Australian time.

Spence was one of three Vols announced in the team by the Southeastern Conference after being named at shortstop.

Liam Spence’s grand slam in the top of the 12th lifted Tennessee to a sweep of its series against Georgia Southern to start the 2021 college season on Monday morning.
The Geelong-native broke a 3-3 tie to score the first runs since the fourth as the Vols completed a three-game sweep with a 7-3 win at J. I. Clements Stadium.
