Baseball Australia President David Hynes has released a statement following yesterday’s announcement that the 2021/22 Australian Baseball League season would not go ahead.

ABL makes call on 2021/22 season, sets sights on bright future

The Australian Baseball League will refocus its planning on making the 2022/23 season its biggest yet after deciding to abandon the 2021/22 campaign due to the ongoing challenges presented by the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Baseball Australia chief executive Glenn Williams said the decision was incredibly difficult to make but made with the league’s long-term success and sustainability in mind.

Bandits re-sign fan favourite for 2021/22 season

Fan favourite Logan Wade has signed on for a 10th Australian Baseball League season with the Brisbane Bandits.

The 29-year-old infielder is a four-time ABL championship winner with the Bandits and made 313 regular-season appearances for the Sunshine State club.

Heat retain services of young catcher

West Australian catcher Alex Hall has signed with the Perth Heat ahead of the 2021/22 Australian Baseball League season.

The 22-year-old Milwaukee Brewers prospect will be fronting for his sixth season in the league after making his debut in November 2016.

ABL to delay season start by a month

The Australian Baseball League has announced it is pushing back the start of the 2021/22 season by a month amid the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic.

Baseball Australia chief executive Glenn Williams today confirmed that ABL management are now targeting a mid to late December start to the season to allow scheduling to occur with greater clarity on Australia’s COVID-19 restrictions.

Austin to link up with Blue Sox

Infielder Mitchell Austin is the latest Australian to sign with the Sydney Blue Sox after completing college in the US.

The left-handed hitter will line up with the Blue Sox in the 2021/22 Australian Baseball League season after finishing up at Newman University earlier in the year.

Blue Sox lock in starting pitcher

Starting pitcher Josh Guyer is set to link up with the Sydney Blue Sox for a ninth Australian Baseball League season in 2021/22.

The Blue Sox on Friday announced right-hander Guyer had re-signed and would add to his 67 ABL games for the club.

Holland signs on for eighth season with Bandits

Ever-reliable relief pitcher Sam Holland has committed to the Brisbane Bandits for the 2021/22 Australian Baseball League season.

The Team Australia arm will feature for an eighth season with the Bandits, adding to his 94 career games in the league.

Oxspring to pitch for Blue Sox in 2021/22

Athens 2004 Olympic silver medallist Chris Oxspring is set to return to the mound in the upcoming Australian Baseball League season after signing with the Sydney Blue Sox.

The 44-year-old right-handed pitcher, who has played at the top level in Japan, South Korea and in the US, has made 51 ABL appearances with the Blue Sox over five campaigns.

Fritsch signs on for another season with Bandits

Joint SportsLink Travel 2021 Australian Baseball League Rookie of the Year Dermot Fritsch will look to build on his breakout campaign after signing on with the Brisbane Bandits ahead of the much-anticipated new season.

Fritsch was a shining light for the Bandits last summer as they again missed the playoffs and he will aim to lock down a starting gig after getting his shot last summer on the back of a growing injury list.
