West Australian Liam Hendriks has created history, becoming the first pitcher to claim the Mariano Rivera American League Reliever of the Year award in consecutive seasons.
Hendriks, 32, was on Thursday morning named the 2021 winner in recognition of his dominant debut season with the Chicago White Sox.

Hendriks entered in a non-save situation in the top of the ninth and retired all three batters he faced as the White Sox secured a 12-6 win at Guaranteed Rate Field to extend their American League Division Series by at least one more game.

Liam Hendriks created a slice of Chicago White Sox history on Friday morning, becoming the first pitcher in franchise history to record 30-plus saves and 100-plus strikeouts in a season.
The West Australian entered in a non-save situation in the eighth having not pitched since Sunday morning and struck out the side on 16 pitches as the White Sox went down to the Los Angeles Angels 9-3 at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Hendriks gave up a pair of hits but got out of trouble to close out a 5-2 win for the AL at Colorado’s Coors Field.

The closer picked up his second save of the season in a 3-2 game one victory at Fenway Park and returned hours later to slam the door shut in the second game as the White Sox claimed a doubleheader sweep over the Red Sox for the first time since September 2010.
