Gonzalez has had a long involvement in Australian baseball – on-and-off the field – and will be tasked with leading the ongoing growth of the ABL.

Baseball Australia chief executive Glenn Williams today confirmed that ABL management are now targeting a mid to late December start to the season to allow scheduling to occur with greater clarity on Australia’s COVID-19 restrictions.

The Brisbane Bandits-Sydney Blue Sox and Adelaide Giants-Melbourne Aces rivalries will be renewed in a mouth-watering 120-game schedule released by the ABL.

The Brisbane Bandits, Canberra Cavalry and Perth Heat will host series on Opening Weekend of the 2021/22 Australian Baseball League season.
The ABL and its clubs today revealed the season would revert to a mid-November start with the Bandits and Cavalry to host games on the 18th and the Heat to open their season a night later.

The expansion outfit’s ownership group informed the league this week they would join Auckland on the sidelines for the 2021/22 season.

Auckland has opted to sit out the 2021/22 Australian Baseball League season due to the ongoing uncertainty around travel during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Tuatara this week informed the ABL they had made the early decision to not participate next season, allowing the league and its clubs to push ahead with planning and to lock in a schedule.

Most of the 30 Major League Baseball organisations have locked in their 26-man rosters ahead of Opening Day on Friday, leaving 14 players with Australian Baseball League service time in the mix.
Last season’s American League Reliever of the Year Liam Hendriks will be the only Australian on an Opening Day roster while two former Helms Award winners have been named after not being on season-opening rosters for the abbreviated 2020 season.

The Australian Baseball League enjoyed a 47% overall increase in per-game reach during the 20/21 season despite multiple postponements, cancellations, reschedules and the loss of two teams prior to the season’s start.
Overall fans reached per game increased from 170,000 per game during the 19/20 season, to 264,000 this year.
