Wells becomes 36th Aussie to play MLB

Alexander Wells has become the 36th Australian to make their Major League Baseball debut.

The Novocastrian entered in the seventh inning of Baltimore’s 12-4 loss to Toronto on Sunday morning (Australian time) and tossed a couple of scoreless frames at Sahlen Field.

Orioles call up Wells

Newcastle’s Alexander Wells has been called up by Baltimore and is in line to make his Major League Baseball debut.

Wells, the Orioles’ No. 17 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, was promoted earlier today from Triple-A Norfolk.

Team Australia makes decision on underage World Cups

Boral Team Australia will not compete at two underage World Cup events scheduled for later in the year amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Baseball Australia this week finalised a decision not to enter teams into the 2021 WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup in the US and the U-12 Baseball World Cup slated for Taiwan.

Hendrickson impresses in longest MiLB outing

West Australian Josh Hendrickson collected the win for Reading in the longest outing of his Minor League career on Thursday morning.

Hendrickson gave up a first-inning solo homer but did not surrender another run in his six-inning start, helping the Fightin Phils to an 8-6 win over Binghamton at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Mead named Low-A East Player of the Week

Curtis Mead has become the second Australian to collect a weekly award during the 2021 Minor League Baseball season.

The South Australian was named Low-A East Player of the Week after a dominant stretch for Charleston from June 14-20.

Tuatara opt to sit out 2021/22 ABL season

Auckland has opted to sit out the 2021/22 Australian Baseball League season due to the ongoing uncertainty around travel during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Tuatara this week informed the ABL they had made the early decision to not participate next season, allowing the league and its clubs to push ahead with planning and to lock in a schedule.

Mead homers in second-straight game

Curtis Mead blasted his second homer in as many nights as Charleston notched an extra-innings win over Myrtle Beach in Minor League Baseball on Thursday morning.

Mead hit a solo shot in the seventh to pull the RiverDogs level and finished just a triple shy of a cycle for a second-straight game in a 10-6 win at TicketReturn.com Field.

Wells continues strong June form

Alexander Wells continued his strong June form to help Norfolk past Durham in Minor League Baseball on Wednesday morning.

Wells worked five scoreless innings and picked up his third win of June in a 4-1 victory at Harbor Park.

Giants land Australian Twins prospect

Adelaide has continued its raid of Sydney’s pitching stocks, adding left-hander Lachlan Wells ahead of the 2021/22 Australian Baseball League season.

The 24-year-old Minnesota prospect is the third Blue Sox pitcher to link up with the Giants in the past 12 months, following Todd van Steensel and Luke Wilkins to West Beach.

Hawks win #ALLC2021 gold in Lismore

Ryde Hawks are 2021 Australian Little League champions.

The Hawks rode a five-run second to a 5-1 gold medal game win over Cronulla in Lismore on Monday as they overturned the result of the New South Wales State Championships title game.

Hills walk off, claim Division II gold

Hills are 2021 Australian Little League Division II champions after walking off Brisbane Metro in Monday’s gold medal game in Lismore.

Mitchell Kirby’s sixth-inning single lifted the New South Wales charter to a 7-6 win as they completed a perfect tournament.
