Joint SportsLink Travel 2021 Australian Baseball League Rookie of the Year Dermot Fritsch will look to build on his breakout campaign after signing on with the Brisbane Bandits ahead of the much-anticipated new season.
Fritsch was a shining light for the Bandits last summer as they again missed the playoffs and he will aim to lock down a starting gig after getting his shot last summer on the back of a growing injury list.

Adelaide pitcher Mitch Neunborn and Brisbane infielder Dermot Fritsch have claimed the SportsLink Travel 2021 ABL Rookie of the Year award, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The duo could not be separated after a vote by the league’s six managers and become the first joint winners of the rookie award in the modern-day ABL.

Brisbane has made three changes to its roster ahead of the opening half of the Adelaide hub, proudly supported by the South Australian Government, getting underway on Thursday.
The Bandits’ 24-man active roster to face hosts Adelaide and Perth includes pitchers Brandan Bidois and Rick Teasley, along with infielder Dermot Fritsch.

Thirteen up-and-coming Brisbane players will be joined by WA State League 1 talent when the Bandits’ Futures take on Perth in an Australian Baseball League exhibition series this weekend.
They will face the Heat after Canberra was unable to travel to Perth due to Western Australia’s border being closed to New South Wales.

Redcliffe Red rallied late behind six dominant relief innings from Matthew Bates to deny Surfers Paradise their first win of the Greater Brisbane League season on Friday night.
Bates struck out 11 and allowed one run across his six frames and the Padres scored in the seventh and eighth to collect a comeback 3-2 win at Beenleigh and improve their record to 4-1.

Brisbane has named 22 players as part of its new high performance futures squad.
The squad, which features Queensland prospects looking to earn a spot on the Bandits’ roster, will face Brisbane in 12 games over the eight-week lead up to the start of the ABL season.

Wade Dutton’s late two-run homer propelled Redcliffe Red to a 4-2 Greater Brisbane League win over Windsor at Holloway Field on Sunday.
Dutton went deep after Carter Bell kept the inning alive with a two-out single and Jay Myers added a ninth-inning insurance run as the Padres improved their record to 3-1.
