The Australian Baseball League will refocus its planning on making the 2022/23 season its biggest yet after deciding to abandon the 2021/22 campaign due to the ongoing challenges presented by the COVID-19 global pandemic.
Baseball Australia chief executive Glenn Williams said the decision was incredibly difficult to make but made with the league’s long-term success and sustainability in mind.

The Australian Baseball League has announced it is pushing back the start of the 2021/22 season by a month amid the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic.
Baseball Australia chief executive Glenn Williams today confirmed that ABL management are now targeting a mid to late December start to the season to allow scheduling to occur with greater clarity on Australia’s COVID-19 restrictions.

Three games scheduled between Sydney and Canberra at Blacktown International Sportspark from January 1-3 have been postponed due to ongoing restrictions on movement between the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales as a result of COVID-19.
The Australian Baseball League will announce makeup dates tomorrow when a revised schedule is released following a number of games being called off to start the season following a COVID outbreak on Sydney’s northern beaches.

Three Canberra-Sydney games scheduled for next week have been postponed due to restrictions on travel between the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales being unlikely to ease before the end of the year.
The December 28 clash scheduled for Blacktown International Sportspark and December 29 and 31 games at MIT Ballpark in Narrabundah have been called off.

Baseball Australia chief executive Cam Vale has thanked Australian Baseball League fans for their patience and understanding after Opening Weekend was hit hard by the Sydney Northern Beaches COVID-19 cluster.
Perth’s entire home series against Canberra was not played and the final two games of Sydney’s season opening matchup against Melbourne were called off to allow the Aces to return to Victoria before border restrictions were introduced.

Sydney’s series against Melbourne at Blacktown International Sportspark will not be completed this weekend to allow the Aces the chance to get back to Victoria ahead of likely COVID-19 border restrictions being introduced.
Tonight’s game at 7pm and tomorrow’s contest scheduled for 1pm will not go ahead as Victoria considers closing its border to New South Wales as the Sydney’s Northern Beaches COVID cluster grows.

Canberra will not travel to Perth for its Opening Weekend series against the Heat.
The Cavalry’s roster includes players from New South Wales – or close contacts of people from the state – that would be required to quarantine in Western Australia following a COVID outbreak in Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Community sport – including games and training – will be temporarily cancelled in South Australia after the state government today reintroduced COVID-19 restrictions.
Premier Steven Marshall this afternoon announced a number of measures including calling off all community sport across the state from midnight following an outbreak of 17 cases in the northern suburbs.

Baseball Australia chief executive Cam Vale says he is confident the 2020/21 Australian Baseball League season will go ahead as COVID-19 restrictions continue to ease across Australia and New Zealand.
All eight clubs have signalled they intend to compete and have been convening weekly via videoconference to plan for the league’s 11th season since an owners meeting in April to discuss the impact of COVID-19.

Baseball South Australia’s board has unanimously decided to cancel trainings and games for all its clubs and affiliations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The move is effective immediately, putting an end to the 2019/20 season.
