Report: Two-time World Series champ headed to ABL

New Zealand’s 1 News is reporting two-time World Series champion Manny Ramirez will play for Auckland in the 2020/21 Australian Baseball League season.

Ramirez, 48, is a 12-time All-Star and was named MVP in Boston’s 2004 World Series title.

A's walk off Rangers, Hendriks collects win

Oakland outfielder Stephen Piscotty’s walk-off grand slam handed West Australian Liam Hendriks his first win of the MLB season on Wednesday afternoon.

Piscotty went deep with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth to lift the A’s to a 5-1 win over Texas in game one of their series at the Oakland Coliseum.

Thorpe takes no decision in first MLB start of 2020

Victorian Lewis Thorpe took a no-decision in his first start of the 2020 Major League Baseball season after Minnesota surged late to claim a walk-off win over Pittsburgh at Target Field on Tuesday (Australian time).

The 24-year-old lasted four innings in his third career big league start, allowing three runs on six hits, ahead of Nelson Cruz’s deep single giving the Twins a 5-4 walk-off win.

Rebels extend DBL winning streak to three games

Tracy Village swept its Darwin Baseball League doubleheader on Sunday to extend its winning streak to three games and overall record to 10-1.

The Rebels overpowered Nightcliff 23-0 in the early game ahead of riding strong pitching – and late offence – to a 14-3 win over Palmerston at Tracy Village Sporting Complex.

Thorpe slated for first start of 2020

Victorian Lewis Thorpe will start for Minnesota in its series-opener against Pittsburgh tomorrow, MLB.com’s Do-Hyoung Park has reported.

Thorpe is expected to start for the Twins at Target Field after Homer Bailey was put on the 10-day injured list with right biceps tendinitis.

Hendriks records second save in as many days

West Australian Liam Hendriks recorded his second save in as many days as Oakland moved above .500 with a 3-2 win over Seattle on Monday morning (Australian time).

After recording three outs on 13 pitches to help the A’s complete an extra-inning win a day earlier the 31-year-0ld closer worked around a one-out single to deny the Mariners in the ninth at T-Mobile Park.

Hendriks closes out win, A's pull level atop AL West

West Australian Liam Hendriks collected his second save of the MLB season to help Oakland snap a three-game losing streak on Sunday.

Hendriks recorded the final three outs as the A’s topped Seattle 3-2 in 10 innings at T-Mobile Park to pull into a tie with Houston for the American League West lead.

Thorpe throws two scoreless, Twins fall to Indians

Victorian Lewis Thorpe tossed two scoreless innings in his second outing of the MLB season but Minnesota’s offence was unable to get going in a 2-0 loss to Cleveland on Friday morning at Target Field.

Thorpe entered in the top of the eighth and gave up a lead-off single to Carlos Santana but induced a double play to end the inning after getting Franmil Reyes to fly out for the first out.

Whitefield takes first AB, Twins blank Cards

Australian Aaron Whitefield took his first Major League at bat – in his third big league game – as Minnesota shut out St. Louis 3-0 on Thursday morning.

Whitefield entered as a defensive replacement in centre field to start the seventh and took his first MLB at-bat with two out in the bottom of the eighth at Target Field.

Tigers' rally falls short of Reds in DBL

Nightcliff was unable to snatch victory from Palmerston as its rally from six runs down fell just short in the Darwin Baseball League on Sunday.

The Tigers piled on eight runs in the top of the seventh against the Reds to hit the front after trailing 7-1 entering the final inning but were unable to hold on and forced to settle for a 9-9 tie at Tracy Village Sporting Complex.
