Victorian Lewis Thorpe tossed two scoreless innings in his second outing of the MLB season but Minnesota’s offence was unable to get going in a 2-0 loss to Cleveland on Friday morning at Target Field.
Thorpe entered in the top of the eighth and gave up a lead-off single to Carlos Santana but induced a double play to end the inning after getting Franmil Reyes to fly out for the first out.

Australian Aaron Whitefield took his first Major League at bat – in his third big league game – as Minnesota shut out St. Louis 3-0 on Thursday morning.
Whitefield entered as a defensive replacement in centre field to start the seventh and took his first MLB at-bat with two out in the bottom of the eighth at Target Field.

Nightcliff was unable to snatch victory from Palmerston as its rally from six runs down fell just short in the Darwin Baseball League on Sunday.
The Tigers piled on eight runs in the top of the seventh against the Reds to hit the front after trailing 7-1 entering the final inning but were unable to hold on and forced to settle for a 9-9 tie at Tracy Village Sporting Complex.

West Australian Liam Hendriks nailed a four-out save to put Oakland up 2-1 in its four-game season-opening series against the Los Angeles Angels at the Oakland Coliseum on Monday morning.
Hendriks bounced back after blowing a save in an eventual A’s Opening Day win to preserve a two-run advantage in his second outing of 2020.

Australians Lewis Thorpe and Aaron Whitefield both featured as Minnesota took the rubber game of its three-game season-opening series against the Chicago White Sox on Monday morning.
Thorpe worked 2 2/3 scoreless innings in his season debut at Guaranteed Rate Field – where he made his MLB debut last June and Whitefield scored his first big league run in a 14-2 win.

Aaron Whitefield entered as a pinch runner in Minnesota’s 10-3 loss to the Chicago White Sox earlier this morning, becoming the 35th Australian to play Major League Baseball.
The 23-year-old Queenslander replaced left fielder Eddie Rosario after he singled on a fly ball with one out in the top of the ninth at Chicago’s Guaranteed Rate Field.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees have started the shortened 60-game MLB season on a high, recording Opening Day wins on Friday.
Enrique Hernández homered in a four-hit, five-RBI night, as the Dodgers downed San Francisco 8-1 at Dodgers Stadium after the Yankees earlier topped defending champions Washington 4-1 in a rain-reduced contest.

There will be six extra teams when the 2020 MLB postseason gets underway later in the year.
MLB and the Major League Baseball Players Association jointly announced earlier today the postseason would expand to 16 teams, up from 10, for 2020.

Minnesota has named two Australians on its 30-man roster for MLB Opening Day, including a possible debutant.
The Twins included Victorian left-hander Lewis Thorpe as one of 15 pitchers along with two-time ABL Helms Award winning outfielder Aaron Whitefield for their three-game series away to the Chicago White Sox from Saturday morning Australian time.
