Dual Helms winner to play in Puerto Rico

Two-time Helms Award winner Aaron Whitefield will spend the Australian summer playing in Puerto Rico.

The Queenslander, who became Australia’s 35th Major League Baseball player in 2020, signed with Criollos de Caguas in the Puerto Rican Winter League.

Mead helps Hot Rods to series-opening win

South Australian Curtis Mead’s ninth-inning single helped Bowling Green Hot Rods seal a comeback win in the opening game of the High-A East Championship Series on Friday morning.

Mead’s single allowed two runs to score and the Hot Rods to hit the front as they secured a 10-8 over the Greensboro Grasshoppers at First National Bank Field.

Three Aussies to feature in Minor League playoffs

Three Australians are set to feature in the Minor League Baseball playoffs when they get underway tomorrow.

Queenslander Aaron Whitefield, South Australian Curtis Mead and Victorian Mitch Ellis will be after championships with their respective teams across best-of-five series.

Whitefield collects weekly Minor League honour

Aaron Whitefield’s red-hot start to the Minor League Baseball season has seen him named the Double-A Central Player of the Week for May 4-9.

The two-time Helms Award winner was instrumental in Wichita putting together a 5-1 record in the first week of the season, going 12-for-27 with seven RBIs.

Thorpe collects win as Twins close in on AL Central crown

Lewis Thorpe collected his third big league win as Minnesota took another step towards the American League Central title.

The left-hander worked four innings in relief as the Twins rode four homers to an 8-5 victory over Kansas City at Target Field.

Thorpe allows one run in fifth MLB outing

Lewis Thorpe shook off a shaky start to allow one run and strike out three in his return to the mound with Minnesota at Target Field this morning.

The 23-year-old worked two innings in the Twins’ 6-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox after being recalled on Saturday morning (Australian time).

Thorpe set for third stint with Minnesota

Lewis Thorpe has been recalled by Minnesota and will link up with the Twins for a third stint this season.

Minnesota announced this morning (Australian time) the left-handed Victorian had been recalled from Triple A Rochester.

Thorpe strikes out seven in return to Rochester

Lewis Thorpe struck out seven in six scoreless innings for Rochester in his return to Triple-A this morning.

The left-hander did not give up a hit until the fifth inning but despite his strong outing the Red Wings fell to Gwinnett 4-3 at Frontier Field.

Whitefield goes 4-for-5 in Miracle win

Former Helms Award winner Aaron Whitefield collected four hits and drove in a run for Fort Myers in an 11-6 win over Dunedin in the Florida State League today.

Whitefield went 4-for-5 in just his third game back with the Class A Advanced Miracle following a stint in Double A with Pensacola.
