Liam Grant slammed the door with four scoreless relief innings as Cronulla prevailed 8-5 and improved to 1-1, level with the other three teams in Pool B.

The Mariners collected 12 hits to seven to make it two-from-two for Victorian teams on the opening day of action after Eastern Athletics won earlier against Brisbane Metro.

Chesterton struck out three across three scoreless innings ahead of Bates punching out 12 in four frames without a hit as Macarthur prevailed 3-0 on diamond one.
