The Brisbane Bandits announced the signing of 17-year-old Aussie infielder Max Durrington from Surfers Paradise.
The ABL contract, which lasts for three seasons and through to 2027, comes shortly after he inked one of the largest minor league deals for an Australian ever.
The Brisbane Bandits’ website says, “Max’s baseball journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.”
It continues to say:
“From an early age, he has been immersed in the sport, starting with his father in Queensland and progressing through Baseball Queensland programs.
His competitive edge emerged at just eight years old with Mudgeeraba, and by eleven, he was making a name for himself at the Surfers Paradise Baseball Club. His impressive performances at the U16 and U18 national championships, coupled with his time at Baseball Queensland High Performance Academies, have distinguished him as a standout player. His dazzling display at the 2022 U16 Championships and the 18U National Camp in August 2023 has captured the attention of scouts and coaches, marking him as a player with immense potential.”
In 2022, Max made his A-Grade debut in the Greater Brisbane League at just 15 years old and concluded the 2023-24 season with a .400 batting average, leading his team in stolen bases and triples.
Bandits head coach Shayne Watson has lauded Max’s drive, work ethic, and talent, recognizing these qualities as key to his standout performances. Max’s achievements have also led to opportunities such as an MLB select trip and growing interest from scouts and college recruiters, setting him on a promising trajectory in the sport.
“We are eager to witness Max’s growth and his significant impact on the Bandits’ success over the next three years. As he gains invaluable experience both in the Australian Baseball League and within the Oakland Athletics system overseas, we look forward to seeing him shine and contribute to our team’s accomplishments,” the Bandits website says.
