Australia names two 14U Squads for Perfect Game Wood Bat Tournament in USA
Baseball Australia’s partnership with one of the world’s leading amateur scouting networks Perfect Game has continued to grow, with Team Australia confirmed as an entrant in the 2024 Perfect Game World Wood Bat Association Championships in Hoover, Alabama.
Australia will see two 14 & Under aged teams leave to the United States to compete in the tournament.
The event has 200 teams entered and will be played at the Hoover Met Sports Complex July 12 – 19. Some of the best players at this age level in the USA will take part.
The tour will act as a pilot program for players transitioning into the Nationally recognised Performance Pathways program, incorporating the Australian Youth Championships and underage National team programs.
It also gives young Australian players a chance to see how they stack up to elite talent outside of the country.
“During the COVID-19 break, we came to the conclusion that there was a requirement to bridge the gap for talented players transitioning out of Little League programs, which focuses a lot on participation, into the refined performance pathways programs,” says Baseball Australia’s General Manager of Performance Pathways and Player Development.
“This is where players can challenge themselves in acquiring more advanced skills that project to high level performances at high levels of the game. The introduction of this program will allow for focused preparation, and intense game opportunities for these players as they prepare for the U16 and U18 levels.”
Crooks says while this year Australia is entering two teams, there is scope to increase the number of teams over time through Baseball Australia’s relationship with Perfect Game.
“We are working with our state association partners on an expansion of this program, and we are very excited about what this will mean for player development on a longer time scale,” he says.
Here are the teams. Congrats to all those selected:
