Kilby's blast helps Padres snap Lightning's winning streak in GBL

Jason Kilby’s three-run blast in the ninth inning has helped Redcliffe Padres snap Pine Hills Ligntning’s ten game winning streak with a 6-3 victory in Greater Brisbane League action on Friday.

GREATER BRISBANE LEAGUE: Results, schedule, standings & news

Redcliffe took a 1-0 lead in the third on Carter Bell’s bases loaded walk but Pine Hills were able to seize the momentum in the sixth.

After a single and a walk chased Padres starter Nathan Sharrow, David Sutherland and Tim Preston both had RBI singles before Sutherland scored on a wild pitch to put the Lightning up 3-1.

Redcliffe answered immediately in the seventh with Lachlan Wilson tripling home a run before scoring on Liam Taylor’s RBI single to tie the game.

It remained that way until Kilby’s heroics in the ninth before Sam Holland struck out the side in the 9th to seal the win for the Padres.

Holland stuck out seven for Redcliffe in 3 1/3rd innings in relief to earn the win.

Elsewhere, Coomera Cubs picked up a 10-4 victory over Wests Bulldogs in a clash which was moved to Regents Park due to Queensland’s inclement weather.

Coomera jumped out to an early 3-1 advantage before Wests tied the game on Po-Chaun Lai’s two run blast in the third.

However, the Cubs responded scoring runs in four consecutive innings to pull away from the Bulldogs.

Stephen Best and Michael Sharp each had three RBI for Coomera while Ian Lee reached based five times including four walks.

Sam McNeice collected the win for the Cubs throwing 3 1/3rd innings in relief allowing just one earned run.

In Friday’s other completed contest, Windsor Royals turned in a powerful hitting display to defeat Pine River Rapids 16-6 at Les Hughes Sporting Complex.

It was tight contest early before the Royals pulled away on the back of seven run fifth inning to make it a 10-1 game.

The two teams will clash again on Sunday afternoon.

Matchups between Ipswich Musketeers and Surfers Paradise and Redlands Rays against Mudgeeraba Redsox were washed out.
