Australian infielder Travis Bazzana named MLB All-Star
Travis Bazzana has become just the third Australian selected to the Major League Baseball All-Star Game after earning a place on the American League roster through player balloting.
He will represent the Cleveland Guardians as a player elected reserve (non starter) and will play in the ‘Mid Summer Classic’ at Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park on July 14 (8 p.m. ET).
The 22-year-old was named to the 2026 MLB All-Star Game on Saturday, joining Australian baseball greats Dave Nilsson, Grant Balfour and Liam Hendriks as the only Australians to receive the honour. Nilsson was selected once during his career, while Hendriks has been named an All-Star three times.
He joins fellow Australian Baseball League players Junior Caminero (Tampa Bay / Perth) and Cristopher Sanchez (Philadelphia / Perth) on the squads.
Bazzana has enjoyed a remarkable rise since making his Major League debut with the Cleveland Guardians on April 28.
At the time of his selection, the Australian infielder was slashing .255/.347/.420 with 12 doubles, seven home runs and 27 RBIs across 57 games. He has also become a fixture at the top of Cleveland’s lineup, making 30 starts as the club’s leadoff hitter.
His arrival has coincided with a dramatic turnaround for the Guardians, who have climbed back into postseason contention following his promotion to the Major Leagues.
Bazzana also continues to make franchise history. He is just the fourth rookie in Cleveland franchise history to earn an All-Star selection, highlighting the immediate impact he has made in his first Major League season.
Selected first overall in the 2024 MLB Draft, Bazzana has quickly established himself as one of baseball’s brightest young stars. Less than three months into his Major League career, he now adds All-Star to an already remarkable résumé.
