Wollongong confirmed it is the team to beat in the Illawarra Baseball League this season with an impressive win over defending champions Berkeley at the weekend.
The Cardinals scored the opening 11 runs at Eagle Field on Saturday before prevailing 12-5 to stay a win clear atop the ladder with two games remaining in the regular-season.

Wollongong is in a strong position entering the final three weeks of the Illawarra Baseball League regular-season after notching a 13-4 win over Dapto on Saturday.
The Cardinals’ offence fired early and padded its lead late at Hector Harvey Park as Wollongong improved to 5-3, a win clear of the third-ranked Chiefs.

Northern Pirates stunned Wollongong to record its second win of the season on Saturday and create a logjam at the top of the Illawarra Baseball League standings.
The Pirates rallied from 2-0 down to prevail 6-2 at Cringila Park, recording their first win since July 25.

It was a case of third time lucky as defending Illawarra Baseball League champions Berkeley downed Wollongong for the first time this season on Saturday.
The Eagles overturned a pair of losses to the Cardinals earlier in the season, riding strong pitching from Josh Doyle and early offence to an 8-3 win at Cringila Park.
