Australian Little League History

Australian Little League Baseball launched in 2007 with the Australian Little League Championship held for the first time in 2008.

In 2013 Perth Metro Central became the first charter to represent Australia Region at the Little League® Baseball World Series after the national champions were granted automatic entry.

A year later Perth Metro North made history in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, by becoming the first team from Australia to win a game at the World Series.

Junior League was added to the Little League calendar in 2015 with Perth’s Central Firebirds claiming the inaugural title on the Gold Coast.

Senior League was added in 2016 and Intermediate League made its debut in Australia in 2018.

Little League participation in Australia has increased every year and in 2018 nearly 14,000 boys and girls aged 9-17 participated.

In 2021, 41 teams from around the country took part in Australian Championships and Little League Division II made its debut on the national stage.

The winners of the four championships – in non-COVID times – secure a ticket to their respective World Series and represent Australia Region on Little League’s biggest stages.
