Tonight Australia came out with something to prove. They can now say they have played with the best and won. In a historic sporting moment in a historical venue, Australia not only defeated, but shutout the Arizona Diamondbacks.

It all started in the third inning with a lead off single from Logan Wade. Mitch Dening followed with a double to advance Wade to third. Stefan Welch singled to score Wade for the first RBI of the game.

Tim Kennelly who was .500 for the night homered in the 4th to take the scoreline to 2-0. Australia continued to show their dominance with a rally in the 5th. Heavy hitters Stefan Welch and Justin Huber, who were each .500 on the night, and Luke Hughes who posted a phenomenal .667, led the team to three more runs making the score 5-0.

By the 5th inning Team Australia had gone above and beyond what was required to secure a win. Their pitching was nothing short of outstanding as they shut out one of the best teams in Major League Baseball. Tim Atherton was credited with the win, while Archie Bradley took the loss.

A proud Manager Deeble spoke of how his team held themselves and played the baseball he knows they can.

“When you have great pitching, great hitting and defense with no mistakes, that’s how you win” said Deeble. “Our pitchers were outstanding, we learnt from last night and they barred down for the whole nine innings”.

Tim Kennelly mastered the perfect combination tonight, creating a memorable moment for himself and the Australian fans.

“Being at the SCG, playing a big league club and hitting a home run in the Australian uniform, this is very special to me” said Kennelly.

Last night Australia came within an inning of beating MLB heavyweights the Los Angeles Dodgers. After leading for seven innings they lost 4-2 after a 2-run homer from superstar Yusiel Puig.

Diamondbacks Manager Kirk Gibson commended Australia on a game well played.

“I have to give them credit, they formed a game plan and executed it well. We weren’t able to make the necessary adjustments. They pitched us well, played hard and impressed a lot of people tonight.”

The Dodgers and Diamondbacks will commence the official Major League Baseball Opening Series tomorrow and Sunday 23 at the SCG.
